Re: Bentonite Clay
l used the clay this weekend i liked it! I used a mixture of the Aztec Secret, coconut milk and ACV
I think i should have mixed a 50/50 of CM and water?? also may have used a bit too much ACV as well
The clay was very light and fluffy kinda bounced off when i was applying it but once it was on and i smoothed it down on my head it was good I expected it to harden like on your face???
This was my first time any coments on my expirience and mix??

Re: Bentonite Clay
Well that's good. Mine didn't harden on my hair, but I think that's because I used so much coconut milk.
Did you deep condition afterwards?

Re: Bentonite Clay
Yes i did a deep condish after...I didnt realize the coconut milk was so oily or i would have used less, I mixed it with just the CM along with what i think may have been too much ACV...
Oh i forgot i mixed in a few drops of Nettle and Marshmallo!!!!
At least it didnt smell bad it actually smelt like cheesecake LOL
I'll try it again in a few weeks mix it a little different and see if it helps..all in all I really like it...

Re: Bentonite Clay
Are there any updates to this bentonite experiment? I want to try it but still don't know what to mix it with. My hair rejects all things coconut and EVOO. I have 4a hair but it's fickle and hard to care for.
I really just want to loosen my curl pattern, Henna isn't doing the trick either.

Re: Bentonite Clay
I did a bentonite clay 2 weeks ago and I used ACV, greek yogurt, honey, olive oil, and distilled water. I did a mini-protein treatment and then DC'c with a combination of conditioners and olive oil and honey. My hair came out wonderful. Very defined (tight), curls, dense, shiny...just wonderful.
Vixen...I'm not having any loosen curls at all. Actually, my curls seem tighter and denser after using the clay. I keep hearing that henna will loosen your curls so I've stayed away from it. Plus, I use a cellophane to cover my grey and I'm happy with that. I would suggest using the bentonite clay if you want to clarify and condition, if you have issues with dryness; but you HAVE to DC afterwards.
CurlyMo, did you try the clay again? How did it turn out?

Re: Bentonite Clay
I did my first experiment with this clay and posted everything on my blog here: http://makeupvixen.blogspot.com/2010/03/makeupvixen-on-bentonite-clay-treatment.html
Let me know what you think and any suggestions I should try next time.

Re: Bentonite Clay
I don't know why people say it will loosen your curls. I've had the complete opposite effect. And yes you have to deep condition like crazy afterwards. The dryness can be bad, but IMO its outweighed by all of the other wonderful benefits.
I would suggest using less ACV, more moisturizing ingredients like honey, coconut olive, and/or avacado oils, coconut milk, and yogurt. And I would use a mixture of these with a good deep conditioner afterwards. DC for a good length of time...so this will probably end up being a half day or overnight treatment. I can see doing the bentonite clay treatment and then DCing overnight and you should be fine.
When I did my last treatment earlier this month I made sure to DC afterwards and my hair felt great. However, about 3-4 days later I was feeling dry and I simply prepoo'd and cowashed and now my hair feels great with all of those wonderful benefits...at least their wonderful to me. I like the fact that my hair feels denser and my curls are popping...and the shine is killing!
I think if you want to loosen your curls you have have to continue with the henna and you'll see a differentce over an extended period of time.

Thanks for the response.
Have you tried the Cherry Lola or Rhassoul Clay? I really want to loosen my curls and henna isn't working for me.
This morning I day add some Avocado Oil and some Growth OIl by KBB and now my neck looking like a sprayed it with WD-40. I've been whipping the oils on my arms and legs all day yet my hair is getting dryer by the minute. I'm in an office right now and as soon as I get home I want deep condition my hair but I mostly hair protein conditioners at home and thinking it wont work. My last hope is the Luscious Locks I have left from trying KBB. I hope it can lock in the moisture.
I mean it's getting super dry and my hair is rejecting the oils and moisture as we speak! I'm getting a little nervous that my hair will break off by tomorrow morining...
Re: Bentonite Clay
I've tried Bentonite clay on my face. It's a really good mask.
I'll try it on my hair at some point and will be referring to this thread when I do.
Sister Boyd, how'd you get that lovely red hair color??

Re: Bentonite Clay
Thank you Pops! Its a cellophane. Sebastein's Red Red. I'm do for a retouch next month and I'll go back to my blonde for the Spring and Summer. This was the first year I went this red
Come back and let us know if you like it Pops!
Vixen, the oil isn't going to moisturize your hair...you'll have to use a moisturizer first and then seal it in with oils. Since you're experience so much dryness go ahead and DC. Use a good conditioner or make your own. If you have a cheapie like VO5 thats ok. Mix it with honey, some oil (coconut, olive, avacado) and if you can get some coconut milk or yogurt and leave it on for at least 20 minutes. Try styling with something that is moisturizing as well. This is when I do conditioner only or KCCC. For conditioner only I like Tresseme and I use my mixture of glycerin and aloe (75%/25%) as a leave-in. The next day I'll spritz with distilled water, conditioner, and little oil of my choice. If I feel the need to moisturize at night I'll spritz, maybe apply some shea butter and seal with an oil before sleeping with my bonnet.

Re: Bentonite Clay
I was able to stop at the store and found some 2% Yogurt, they didn't have regular. Do I just put it on my hair alone or mix it with something?

You can mix it with honey, your oils, and some of your conditioner you have on hand.
Re: Bentonite Clay
CurlyMo, I glad t hear your clay worked for you. Those are the same results I get. Sometime the simple things are what work best. You're going to see those results for weeks to come.

Re: Bentonite Clay
Fresh, it should be like cake batter. I never use exact measurements. However, you can look it up online and you may find measurements. Or look for it on YT.
Re: Bentonite Clay
I did a clay facial the other day and I beleive these were my measurements:
2 Tbsp Clay
3 Tbsp Apple cider vinegar
When mixed it was a good pasty consistency. I didn't add any oils this time but maybe you can add an oil a tsp at a time.

Re: Bentonite Clay
I just did a bentonite clay treatment on my hair and I couldn't tell you how much I used of anything much less what I used. I just grab stuff and pour hahahaha
Re: Bentonite Clay
I used bentonite this past week. I like the feeling of my hair. But why do I have to little patches of missing hair on my edges!!!! That was very up setting. Makes me want to just go use all staple products and quit trying stuff.

Re: Bentonite Clay
I use it on dirty hair since I'm using it to clarify and I have issues with dryness afterwards.
