Re: Curly Chef Robin: Frohawk Pic
CurlyChef, I have been seeing the same hairdresser since 1981! I know EXACTLY how you feel! I don't know if I can go back at this point except for a wet set. Since I trimmed my own hair a couple of weeks ago, I feel like I can't go backwards, you know?

Swoodard - that's exactly how I feel. I love her to death and she's been great but I feel like I'm wasting money (money i could be using on products). LOL!!!
Re: Curly Chef Robin: Frohawk Pic
Welcome to curl street!!!
I don't see my beautician as much either. I let her cut my TWA like a month and a half ago. I asked her what products I could use to make myhair easier to manage. When she told me no I decided that I may not be able to go to her anymore. So now I just see her to get my eye brows done. I sent her a text today telling her she really could build up her clientel by learning more about natural hair and using curl friendly products. Since I'm not aware of any natural hair salons in Colorado I'm sure she would clean house!
Enough about me.... take your time before you chop of your relaxer. I know that not everyone is meant to BC. But if you do there will be plenty of support here for you. And if you decide to do a long transition there will be a lot of support for you as well.

Re: Curly Chef Robin: Frohawk Pic
Hey Robin,
I actually loved my stylist I went to before I went natural. She was my stylist for about 4-5 years and I never had issues with her but she was really discouraging when I talked about going natural. She was also a "creamy crack addict". It was a big decision for me but I had to stop going to her once I made up my mind to stop relaxing. I had to relearn to do my own hair but its been worth it.

Thanks Krazy coils, it is very frustrating. My hairdresser is wonderful and very supportive of my natural hair journey, she just doesn't know how to do natural hair. Uggg!!!
Re: Curly Chef Robin: Frohawk Pic
I understand the stylist issue! Mine is actually transitioning using weaves and has a few other naturals in her clientele. The issue is that she does presses/flat iron to match the two textures on her other clients and that's not something I want to do regularly in my journey. I'm doing a short transition and I had her cut off 5 inches of relaxed ends last week. I'm back to a short pixie length and plan to have her to the final BC (although not that BIG at this point lol) in August/September. After that, I'll see her when I need a trim and treat myself to a deep condition.

@ Cyclingchick - Yes, I am trying to not use any heat as well. I prefer for my hair to air dry in my twists as well. I HATE sitting under the dryer for 1 11/2 hours while they dry. I like the pixie cut on you.

Re: Curly Chef Robin: Frohawk Pic
Hey CurlyChef! My current stylist promotes natural hair but she also likes to straighten it. I'm not really into that so I just do my own hair most of the time.
BTW- hope to catch you at the October hair seminar/meetup, whatever it is?

That sounds great! Is it the one in Detroit or is another planned. Detroit may be a little far for me.

Hey Swoodward! I should have time tonight to post more pics. YEAH!!
The transition is going well. I'm actually at 18 weeks now and I am not turning back!!! I still want to BC but my front edges need to grow in a little more or it will look quite funny. DARN YOUR RELAXER!! making my edges completely go away - now the front edges are maybe an inch and the rest of my hair is about 2 1/2 inches of new growth. I am ready to be free of these relaxed ends I'm just trying to wait a teeny bit longer.
I am so much more confident and I love being natural. So glad I did this! Gotta work on my presentation so I will be online later this evening!
See you ladies later!

Hello CurlyChefRobin!
You seem really happy on your journey thus far and that is great that you are having fun. It really is fun to learn your hair. I had the same problem with my edges. I use Jamaican black castor oil and that helped some ppl use regular castor oil. They have a castor oil challenge in the natural hair challenges forum if you want to check that out.
To do a multi-quote you have to click on the multi-quote button for every one you want to comment on and then click the post reply button at the bottom of the page to post your replies.

Thanks so much MellowOne! I am loving this hair journey!!! I'm on the castor oil challenge. I do believe it's working. As you can see from the pics my edges and back are growing in beautifully! I can actually twist the back out a bit to stretch it! YEAH!!
I tried the Kimmaytube mixture and I am in hair heaven. My hair has never felt this so for so long. We'll see how it feels tomorrow - day 2!

Thanks so much ladies! I am quite excited about my hair!!! I keep thinking about the BC but I worry because my edges are still short and I don't want to have to cut off all the length from the back to make it even. The two textures are NOT fun but I'm trying to make it work for now.
