Has anyone ever tried coloring their hair with cinnamon? I've been reading up on this and am thinking about trying it. Any suggestions??

I've read about honey and cinnamon lightening hair. Apparently, when (raw?) honey is mixed with water and cinnamon, it turns into a peroxide. I was thinking of trying it, but I may see what happens with henna first.

Be careful- a friend of mine tried it- messed up her curl pattern and she had allergic reactions. However, no 2 heads are the same! it may work for you.

Well, I tried this about a week ago and did not see a difference at all. I read about two different methods 1) Cinnamon and Conditioner and 2) Raw honey, cinnamon and conditioner. I tried the first method which recommends leaving the mixture on for about 8-12 hours...I did notice a little tingling around my forehead area, so I would recommend that you test try this on your skin first so that you don't burn. Anyway, 12 hours later I rinsed and my hair looked the same. Also, trying to get all of the cinnamon out off of my scalp took forever, I think I still had build up after two washes.

I'm still interested in trying again but I think next time I'll try the method with the raw honey.

I was actually looking this up today (late I know) but apparently it takes a few applications to see a noticeable difference. I'm really interested in trying this and seeing how it works! I'll probably do the method with the honey though as well Happy2B ... I'll let you guys know the results when I decide to try it!!!!!

Just be careful with cinnamon, it can burn you because it is a irritant. So don't let it roll off your head into your eyes or anything. Especially in the oil form.

I am intrigued but not fully convinced. I will need to see pics of curlies who did this after a few applications. It probably works better in something like a henna. Sort of like what honey does in henna. Hummmm....
I have read and heard of cinnamon more as a growth stimulant. But I can see it as a lighter also.

Yeah IB I'm not fully convinced either but I'm convinced enough to try it!! lol I'm sitting with cinnamon and conditioner in my hair right now Smile I'm just curious as to what it will do. It felt and smelled great putting it in my hair though. And I feel you on the irritant part. It hasn't bothered me so far and I'm surprised because I have eczema but hopefully something good comes out of this whether it's growth stimulation or lightening! I'll definitely post the results though because I won't believe it til it works on my hair. lol

Post by xtremelyperfect 21st February 2010, 1:58 pm

Hey ladies! I use honey in my deep conditioner every week and I have noticed my hair has gotten considerably lighter.. so much so that I'm going to henna/indigo to get my lovely black hair back. I also use cinnamon in my henna mix so that might also be why my hair has lightened so much. But anywhoo one of my favorite YouTubers, chisellecouture, posted this video about lightening her hair with cinnamon and honey.
