Protein vs. DC Moisture - how do you know what you need?
Here what has been the hardest for me to decide. How do you know if your hair needs a protein treatment vs. a moisture DC? I see some people have a reg. where they do protein 1x a month and DC every week or even 2x a week.
How can you tell what your hair needs? CONFUSING [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] How can you tell if you are overdoing it?
Some people say their hair doesn't like Protein, how on earth can you tell?
THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What I would do is to go online and look up both products. Usually in the product description it says what the product is best used for (example: for dry hair). I don't know much about protein treatments but I know that a moisture DC is good for dry hair. It will help restore and lock in much needed moisture for your hair. So if dry hair is your main concern than you should go with the DC first.
Goodluck!

I notice that when I use products with protein my hair feels dry, brittle, and not nice at all. When I had relaxed hair I think my hair loved protein cause I deep conditioned with eggs and mayo condish faithfully. It's really a trial and eror process to me

Iduno. Alot of people just over complicate things on hair boards honestly. I've gone for years without protein (that I know of anyways) in my hair and have no dryness or breakage or growth issues for that matter. The only breakage I get is when I comb my hair and get annoyed and just rake through it lol I see no good or bad effects from products with protein generally. But maybe thats just me >.<

Like Beautifulyfe said, if you are protein sensitive, when you use it, your hair will feel hard, dry, brittle, like straw.
My hair can take proteins but I have to wash it out. So I can co wash with a conditioner with protein in it and I can use them to deep condition. I was doing a protein treatment once a month but I have increased it to every other week and my hair is loving it.
Usually if I experience more shedding than normal, I know I need a protein treatment.
If you are experiencing dryness, then that usually means you need moisture.
I hope this helps.

I found a great article linked from Mane and Chic.com's website: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/278612/the_fine_art_of_protein_and_moisture.html?singlepage=true&cat=69. It discusses the difference between the hair needing moisture vs. protein treatments. It also gives 2 case scenarios and describes the best solution for each one. I learned a lot of great info reading the article. I hope this helps. (you can also visit www.maneandchic.com for more great resources) [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: Protein vs. DC Moisture - how do you know what you need?
I found out through trial and error that my hair doesn't like products with heavy protein. I'm still not sure if it's completely anti-protein or just anti-heavy protein.
Like someone else mentioned, the indicator for me was that my hair was dry, hard, felt straw-like, and it was frizzy (little to no curl formation). This was the result after trying the Organix conditioner with milk and eggs in it or something similar...can't remember the name of it. I saw a review about it on Curly Nikki's site and read how other people raved about it so I wanted to try it but my hair DID NOT like it.
So, I learned through trial and error.
I'm gonna check out the article that SimplyShainee posted.

Thanks for the wonderful link SimplyShainee! I've been dealing with some crazy dryness since I BC'd and that was incredibly helpful.

Organix did the same to my hair. Its smells soooo good but my hair just doesn't like it. Last night I tried Giovanni Deep Moisture Condish and I loved it. After I found out it had protein so I think it depends on the amount in it
