How to use Coconut Oil?

Hello everyone!

I just bought some coconut oil from the vitamin shoppe and I was wondering what way do you guys use it? I heard a ton of naturals rave about it but Im not sure what way it would work best for me. I have Type 4 hair and the brand is Spectrum. Thanks!

I like coconut oil. I use it in my shea butter mixes or as a simple pre-poo. I use a daily moisturizer that contains 1/2 cup of coconut oil, 2 oz. of whipped shea butter, 1 tbsp of castor oil and 1 joboba oil. This recipe was inspired by Naptural85 on Youtube. My hair feels soft all day long when I apply a small amount. Check her out. Hope this helps!

I mix it with shea butter and sometimes olive oil. I love it!

I mix my coconut oil with shea butter as well.

Also, I sometimes use it as a prepoo. I apply it to dry hair let it sit for a short while then rinse it out. Afterwards I proceed with my normal wash routine.

where did you buy your olive oil?

i use it sometimes as an oil rinse or just added to my deep condish. i always use it in my shealoe mix. i also use it on my ends when my hair is in twists. i also use it mixed with shea butter on my twist outs because coconut oil is an anti-humectant.

I use coconut oil in my DCs, in my raw shea/mango moisturizer mix, and just plain old coconut oil slapped on my hair!

I get my olive oil from the grocery store. I just get the biggest bottle I can because I use to for my hair and to cook with.

I use coconut oil (and/or castor oil) for my nightly scalp massages.

I use coconut oil as a pre-poo and an oil rinse, as well as in my oil mix (with shea butter and olive oil). I love it!

But, please beware...it can make your hair GREASY and I mean greasy (i.e. I ran my hands through my hair and was able to oil my elbows)! LOL I find if you put it directly on your hair...make sure your hair is damp or wet...it'll help absord all the grease! :-)

I use it as a sealant after I moisturize.

I use this as a deep pre shampoo conditioner. I apply pure organic virgin coconut oil throughout my hair (the middle especially because it's the dryest part) and then put a plastic cap over my hair and let it soak in for one - three hours. Sometimes I'll let it sit in my hair overnight. Then I'll wash it and go on with my regular routine. I use Jane Carter sls free shampoo - haven't tried this with a co wash but plan to this week. You can do this on wet or dry hair bit on wet hair u get better results but it's harder to wash out. It's a great routine for anyone with dry hair. I just started going natural and still suffer from dry hair but since doing this coconut oil treatment my hair has become better.

I use coconut oil in my moisturizer mix. In a spray bottle, I have combined water (more than half the bottle), a little Oyin Honey Hemp conditioner, some EVOO and some coconut oil.

Coconut oil does tend to solidify pretty easily depending on the temperature of where you keep it, so I almost never use it directly on my hair as is.

I do like the idea of using it as a pre-poo conditioner though. I've never tried it for that purpose, but I will now.

I've started using it as a sealant after I moisturize in the AM. I use shea butter in the evening before I put on the slik bonnet., because i like the smell when I am sleeping.
