Homemade Products anyone???
Hey Curlies =)
Do any of you have any homemade hair product recipes? What are your favorites?
Mine is shealoe...(1/2 cup aloe vera, 1/2 cup shea butter, 1/4 cup coconut oil, a TBSP of honey and a few drops of an essential oil). This is the best moisturizer I have EVER had! So I'm interested in anything else you guys have found to be great for your hair. I'm really looking for a natural curly pudding.
Thanks for all the help guys

Re: Homemade Products anyone???
I like to call this one Banana Souffle and I used it as overnight DC.
1 banana
1 Avocado
1 egg
1 tablespoon EVOO
1 tablespoon Coconut Oil
mix or blend massage into hair. Put a plastic bag overnight. Wash in the morning.
My hair was way soft when I washed it out. But because I didn't blend it I had banana and avocado gut in my hair LOL even after washing and rinsing and detangling with a comb.

I like to mix up:
Shea butter
Coconut Oil
Olive Oil
To use as a pomade. I love it.

Re: Homemade Products anyone???
I want something kind of milky, if anyone knows of a recipe I would appreciate it!
1/2 cup of unrefined shea butter
1/4 cup of aloe vera gel
2 tbs of coconut oil and/or olive oil depending on your preference.
Soften the shea butter by microwaving for about 30 secs or warming over a water bath. Its ok if it melts completely. Once it's soft add the aloe vera gel and coconunt oil. Mix by hand or with a hand mixer on low speed. Pour in a container with a lid and let settle. Store in a cool dry place.

@NylaCoils: I am going to try to make something milky with Coconut Milk. Not sure what I am going to mix with it but I am looking for a "hair lotion" type result. But without the greasiness.
Re: Homemade Products anyone???
@tia- my only problem is I am protein sensitive! I can barely use coconut oil- I have to use it sparingly!
Re: Homemade Products anyone???
I mixed my unrefined shea butter with jojoba oil and use it as a pomade or to seal my ends when I'm wearing a bun or TnCs.

Re: Homemade Products anyone???
I think, I found a milk recipe- off to get the supplies and will post the recipe depending on how this turns out. More like a natural version of pink lotion!
Re: Homemade Products anyone???
@nylacoils: I am looking forward to your update. I still haven't found anything I want to try yet
Re: Homemade Products anyone???
Tia- I mixed it up- It came out a little Pink Lotion'y for me ! So my sisters asked if I would give it to them! I have a friend that loves her TWA to be moisturized with Pink lotion- so I am shippping it out on Saturday,'
Here is goes....
Coconut oil
Oil of your choice
I used a grapeseed oil that I had added madagascar vanilla beans to infuse the smell
Beeswax- I used soy wax
You can make hair lotion. In a heated double boiler, add one-half cup of coconut oil and one-half cup of vanilla (or oil of your choice) oil. If you are using solidified coconut oil, allow it to melt completely. Add one-half ounce of beeswax granules and stir until completely melted and incorporated. Allow to cool until room temperature. Once the lotion is at room temperature, you will be able to test its thickness.
If it is too thick, reheat the double boiler and add more vanilla oil. If the lotion isn't thick enough, reheat the double boiler and add more wax. Once the right consistency is achieved, whip in 10-15 drops of essential oils to add fragrance to your lotion. Store it in a clean glass jar with a lid

@HappigocurliJenn & Blondie...Thanks for the conditioning ideas...I've been looking for a good recipe for one. Do you find that your homemade conditioners are better than the ones you buy from the store?
@NylaCoils...Your hair lotions recipe looks great!...Where did you purchase the soy wax at?
Thanks ladies =)

Re: Homemade Products anyone???
@ac moore- It is a craft place like Michael's. I also added essential oil for fragrance. I would like it more creamy!
Wonder what I could add so it wont be so greasy?

@nylacoils - that recipe sounds really nice, I need to give that a try!
Re: Homemade Products anyone???
I use bentonite clay and yogurt as a protein treatment and cleanser.
2 cups yogurt
1 cup bentonite clay
Apply to damp hair and baggie for 1 hour. It makes curls pop and softens the hair beautifully.

Re: Homemade Products anyone???
The hair lotion came out more like a pomade! I stored them (by mistake) in the coldest room in my house! It came out more like MJ buttercreme!
Re: Homemade Products anyone???

Re: Homemade Products anyone???
I came across a lemon flavored olive oil at Harris Teeter yesterday and I'm thinking since it tastes like lemon it must SMELL like lemon right? I would hate to buy it and it not smell lemony enough. I want to add some natural scent to my whipped shea body butter but I'm not sure if it will be strong enough to overpower the shea butter scent.
Do you ladies make any body products and if so do you just use essential oils to add scent? Anyone have any experience with all natural fragrance oils like these? Fragrance Oils

I made some whipped shea for my cousin and sister as gifts and I added Lavender EO for scent. My sister has already asked for more
