I too love the new avatar you take the best pictures. I like your twists as well and glad you joined the challenge. To keep mine straight and from shrinking up I tie them down with my satin scarf at night - they be flat in the morning so I just shake them out.

Ok so I joined the twist challenge and Poetickly said something that stuck with me. Thank you Poet, because of your question I am definitely going to make sure I stick to this challenge. Lovely pics. I agree I wear my twist and I work in Human Resources so when do wear my twist I pin them half up half down or when I wear them down I add make up or accerories. Great job with the pearls and make up.

TD I have to work hard to keep them straight. I have to tie them down and I find spraying them in the morning helps too. The weight of the water helps tremendously!

Lovin the twists Sweet! Sasha is getting so long! I love twists and think that they can be very professional. I wear mine to work with no problem. I'm lead receptionist for a software company so EVERYBODY who walks through the door sees me first. I haven't had any comments except the complimentary kind. Maybe it's easier for me because I'm a bit lower on the totem pole.

Hi Sweet! Just wanted to stop by to say, what a lovely picture your avi is. You look BEAUTIFUL! Loving your look today as well. Before I became a SAHM, I always wore my twists to work and never felt unprofessional. IMO, professionalism is more of how you carry yourself, and much less of what your hair looks like!!!

I also feel that it takes people in professional positions of authority like you, to help shift the paradigm(sp?). Nobody needs to be judged for how their hair looks, and I think we should all "embrace" the role of being pioneers to help everybody else along who might feel otherwise!!

Sweet, thanks for posting the pictures. I think your twists look very nice. My twists never look that nice and my husband is totally against me wearing them in public. LOL! That is the only complaint he has had my entire natural hair journey. He thinks it's ok for me to go to bed that way, but not out of the house. Maybe if I make them skinnier? I'll have to give it a try one day.

Anyway- as for the professionalism part... I work for a non-profit and they are very finicky. I was called in for counseling because I wore a knit beanie over the back of my hair during the winter. My curls were out in the front and it covered behind my ears only. It matched my outfit and everything. Apparently I signed something saying I would never do that. LOL. So, I'm just real cautious about how I look at work. It seems to work for many of you but it's not worth the potential drama for me. I like the idea of being a pioneer, but here- being 1 of 5 black employees is pioneer enough.

Wow! You were "counseled" for a knit beanie?!? I worked as an engineer for IBM for 8 years, and with another Fortune 500 company as a Senior Analyst for five years, and I NEVER, EVER experienced any type of negative treatment/response for how I wore my hair. As a matter of fact, I received the highest performance rating possible AFTER I was completely natural!!

The first thought that came to my mind re: your statment you'rs only 1 of 5, is that maybe that organization needs to "embrace" the idea of diversity as a whole! Both of the companies that I worked for were very supportive of all people. My last department, looked like the UN!!
