Moisturizing hair properly HOW ?
I have been having a serious problem lately with moisture well at least i think i do it seems that no matter how much water / seal with butter , oils that i do my hair seem to still look dry i have 4a/4b hair my permitter some portion of my hair looks really healthy shiny even (the 4 a parts ) i think but the other parts never seems to lay down and aways looks frizzy no matter how much i moisturize it at first i thought i was having porosity issues so i did the strand test and i my hair is normal i'm left to think maybe this is how 4 b hair texture is highly textured hair is prone to dryness but how much moisture is enough or does it matter how much i use ?
If your hair fall under that category how do you know when you have applied enough moisture and sealer to your hair ?

Re: Moisturizing hair properly HOW ?
Like I suggested in another post of yours I would advice you use a heavier moisturizer besides just plain water..I mean water is a good moisturizer (dont get my wrong) but what Ive learn about my 4b hair that it loooooves thick/creamy products...I use KCKT and qhemets AOHC as daily moisturizer..The KCKT serves as my "water" and the AOHC seals it in..both those products are thick which my hair loves!

I have been using the Qhemets & it has worked wonders It keeps my hair moisturized for 3-4 days then I apply the product again It has been a life saver

I agree...water is great, but you perhaps need water-based, creamy leave-in or hair milk to use prior to sealing.
I use Yes to Cucumbers Leave-in Condish (I use only on wet hair), Shea Moisture Conditioning Milk, or Carol's Daughter Hair Milk-Lite (these I use when I feel dry).
I hope that helps!

Re: Moisturizing hair properly HOW ?
okay this is my routine ladies maybe ya'll can guide me further
I'm transitioning so i try not to wash my hair to often out of fear of drying it i use Black african soap to cleanse , that i deep condition , than i use a leave in Giovanni leave in , i apply my mixed shea butter to seal that's on wash day
than every day i spritz with water and than i moisturize and seal every 3 days so the leave in you guys suggesting should i be using a creamy leave in daily or every time i wash that's where i'm confused and i like all natural products are those "naural" and if you use a leave in whenever you moisturize how often do you do it and how do you distribute it to the hair my hair is usually in cornrows or twist under my wigs

Re: Moisturizing hair properly HOW ?
Think about it this way. If you wet 2 paper towels, one with just water and the other with water and oil, the one with the water and oil will stay moist longer. The reason being is that water is heavier than oil therefore it takes more for these molecules to be evaporated past the oil. Hence the concept of sealing. Also this may explain why creamy moisturizers work better for a lot of us. They provide extra elements to keep moisture from exiting the hair. Conversly, this could possibly keep moisture from getting in is the barrier has not worn away enough. You may need to find something else to lock the water in. It could also be that you need to moisturize more often if you don't really wanna switch products. I have taken kind of a "layer" approach to moisturizing. I have "4" category hair with fine strands and normal porosity. I apply my water based leave in after I have blotted the excess water from my hair, smooth on coconut oil, then use a styler that also contains water. No dry hair issues thus far and I only do this every 3-4 days. To better answer your question, I am thinking on wash days go with the creamier leave in the use the spritz or spray during the interim period (if you feel the need to seal again, try using something lighter) until you wash again. HTH!

I knew I had forgotten to mention something! Your wig caps. What are they made of? You may want to evaluate that also since as we know, some fabrics can suck moisture out of our hair. Honestly I am not very consistent with my stylers as I enjoy experimenting. I have used Shea Moisture's DTM and the Curl Enhancing Smoothie. I also use IC Fantasia Gel (the clear one with aloe and wheat protein). Honestly they all worked very well for me and I believe water is the first ingredient in them all. Lol, you see those curls popping in my avi? Those are 3-4 day old curls done with the Curl Enhancing Smoothie. The only reason I don't use the DTM is b/c I hate the smell. I am still looking for something to tone it down...

my mum always oiled my hair. And truly it works great as a moisturizer for hair. One hour of oil massage to your hair weekly makes your hair grow stronger and shinier.

Creole,
In addition to the great advice you have been given, don't forget, in addition to focusing on products, a person can be moisturizing adequately, but other things can work against you. For ex. environmental culprits like wind, indoor heat, excessive exposure to sun, hard water (I have a showerhead water filter)... Tiff made a great point about the wig caps. Anything your hair comes in contact with long term (pillow, scarf, any headgear) should be of a fabric that does not draw moisture from hair. Satin and silk are tried and trues.
Also, some ingredients may be drying for some people that are not naturally thought of as drying. So, also see if there is a common ingredient in something you are using that may be working against you.
No thermal products, no relaxers or other chemical processes, no drying ingredients, stellar moisturizer, no adverse effects from environmental sources should = well moisturized hair. This is my formula, I don't nor have I had dry hair issues and I am not one to seal. So, you sealing and following this formula should work
