jamaicacurl wrote:I've been so tired lately. Didn't do my ayurvedic tx last week because I was frantically doing last minute things for the trade/craft show on saturday. It went very well! Now I have a lot on my plate between work and my business...but it's all good!
I've been wearing my hair in buns for the last week. For some reason my usual regimen is not working out so well since the temperature has been dropping more. I need to figure it out but until then, I'm sporting buns. I may even straighten my hair next week. We'll see.
I'm also thinking about colouring my hair soon. Not too drastic..just a dark brown but light enough to be noticeable. I go through this urge to colour my hair once a year LOL! Any recommendations for a good at home hair colour brand? And/or tips for DT before or after colouring?
CONGRATS for a successful show!

Hi - your hair is beautiful!
Just saw your coconut milk recipe. Can you freeze the leftover milk for later use? I added some coconut milk to my DC and I loved it!

Hey CurlyChef! I've never tried freezing the leftover but I think it's certainly worth a try!
Re: jamaicacurl
I use cellophane which is temporary and will wash out after 6-8 washes. But I use it so often that it has penetrated the first few layers of my cuticle...I have roots.
I always prepoo before I do any shampooing or clarifying. I shampoo before I cellophane. I use a super moisturizing pre-poo and then I follow with a protein DC since I do it so often.
I think following Blondie's suggestions on her page is also a great way to keep your hair healthy through any coloring.

Ooh thanks for the tips SisterBoyd! And I will check Blondie's CSJ for more tips. Question: What is "cellophane"?
Update: Nevermind, I looked it up (duh!) I'm going to look into that next time I go to Sally's. I see that it gives just a tint. I'd like a noticeable colour since my hair is so black. Do you think if I get a lighter colour cellophane, my hair my be noticeably lighter without sunlight?
Re: jamaicacurl
No cellophane only deposits color and doesn't lift. If you have lighter patches or gray then you can get the affects of highlights without the harshness of bleaching. I have a lot of gray so I have multiple levels of color.

Sorry, it's been a while! I may try the cellophane just to see. I only have 1 gray hair, right now, but I'm still interested to see how it will look.

Hey Sweet! I did not shop on Black Friday! Did that once a few years ago and I'll NEVER do that again! LOL I was in Florida for Thanksgiving so I spent time by and in the pool, and hung out with friends!

Glad you enjoyed friends at Thanksgiving. Plus you were in FL, and got to enjoy the sun poolside, how fun!

Hey ladies! Sorry I've been MIA. I've been going through some things lately in my personal life. I've decided to make some changes in 2011 to pursue my own happiness. It's not going to be easy but it's got to be done. Please pray for me
Nothing new to report on the hair front. I've been so distracted with my personal issues that I haven't even done an ayurvedic treatment in a long time. I need it badly though. Other than that, I'm re-focused on my business as well. I've been working on many custom orders that I haven't had a chance to re-stock. So many things to do, so little time.+

Re: jamaicacurl
Thanks so much Chrs!
Well, I have some hair news today. My hair is currently marinating in some ayurvedic powders. Haven't done this in months!!! I feel like my hair has thinned more but I could be imagining things. I noticed recently, though, that my hair isn't as strong as it was a few months ago so this is long overdue!
I made a mixture of Amla, Brahmi, Maka powders and about a Tbsp of olive oil and a tbsp of aloe vera oil (contains aloe vera, castor oil, and essential oils). I'm going to let this sit for an hour. Oh but the best part is that I figured out a way to minimize the mess drastically!! Others may already be doing this but my lightbulb just went off today lol! I mixed the paste in a bowl and then spooned the mixture into a quart sized ziploc bag. I then sealed the bag and cut a corner on the bottom of the bag as if preparing to ice a cake. Squeezing it out that way directly onto my hair or into my hand made such a huge difference in the mess department! No paste splashing and much less to clean up afterwards.
I'll update later with my results. I added the oils to the mixture for moisturizing purposes but I may do an oil DC afterwards under my heat cap anyway.

Re: jamaicacurl
My ayurvedic treatment went well. I didn't do an oil DC afterwards because I forgot to mention that the night before, I applied some aloe vera oil. So that combined with the oils I put in the mixture, after washing it all out, my hair felt very moisturized. Doing an oil DC on top of that would have been too much. Anywho, my hair is looking good and feeling good so far. I'm trying to focus on my scalp that gets crazy dry during the cold months, so I've been oiling it regularly.
