Re: I BIG CHOPPED!!! 6-4-10
Sorry ladies, I know it has been a while since my last post, but I have doing a lot of researching and contemplating...
@CocoEuro, thanks for the suggestions and the website, the information really was helpful! I've been making a few mixes with the oils thanks to the suggestions from you and ChrsLvsBks, and adding olive oil to my conditioners, and I think that's doing pretty well for now.
Last night, I tried a wash n go on my natural/relaxed hair…. I was not pleased I guess my hair is not quite ready for that type of style. My relaxed hair wasas straight as a board, even after I tried scrunching. When it dried, I looked like a scarecrow because my relaxed strands were prickly looking, lol!

I want to do BC myself, but I don't know where to start!!!
So today, I co-washed with Alaffia coconut and shea hydrating conditioner, and LOVED it! After, I applied the Jessicurl Weekly Deep Treatment plus EVOO as a moisturizing conditioner and sat under the hooded dryer for 30 minutes...
...I have not washed this out yet because I am seriously thinking about doing the BC right now! My edges are very thin and fragile and I think that I am putting them through too much stress when I detangle my hair. I really want to be free from the bondage of my relaxed ends! I forgot to mention that I trimmed an inch from my front and sides (had an inverted bob) before I put the DT, lol! So now I'm thinking I should just cut it all. I initially planned to BC much further down the line (next year), but after reading so many posts on the forum, I think I'm ready!
So I really need your help... How do I BC? Any suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated!

Congratulations! It's always exciting once you BC. And I'm from Baton Rouge, but moved away 3 yrs ago You have a good length to work wiht and lots of pretty curls. You can definitely do wash n'go's for a while. Just make sure you sleep with a bonnet cap on or a satin pillowcase. Your hair looks great!

Thanks Serenity! I've been sleeping with a satin bonnet and satin pillowcase for years, so I'm good there. I used Kinky Curly Knot Today, sealed with coconut oil, and styled with KCCC. I didn't really like the stickiness, but It was cute last night. When I woke up this morning, my hair was stuck to my head (but still curly, just smashed) and it
was very hard! I need to use a product that won't make my hair hard and crunchy, and I must figure out how to preserve the style in the morning! Any suggestions?

Re: I BIG CHOPPED!!! 6-4-10
I am not a fan of the kinky curly products, but I do love the Curls line that's at Target. I use the coconut condish and the gel when I do wash n'gos. If you don't want hardness, how about cowashing in the mornings when you shower and just leaving your conditioner in? Conditioner (only) works for me when I'm doing wash n'gos and my curls are not as lose as yours so that may work for you too. Good luck!

Thanks NubieNatty! You're right, over-thinking is something that I do so very often, I must learn to go with the flow. Thanks for the tip!

@Serenity23 (My Sweet Soror!), Both Target stores in Baton Rouge to find the Curls products, but they are out of stock which allows me to assume that this is a very popular product in the area . I will probably have to order online this week if I cannot find it locally. I'll keep you posted on the results. Thanks for the suggestions, and keep 'em coming!

Update: 1 Week After BC
Here's an update of one week ALL NATURAL:
Wet hair no product. I'll be so happy when all the relaxed ends are
gone, I search and destroy daily, LOL
At night, I Co-washed with suave naturals, DT with garnier deep 3 minute
treatment. HE Hydralicious
Re-Conditioner as leave in. Sealed with olive oil. Air drying...
This is how my hair looked when I removed my extra large satin bonnet in
the morning...like a pancake! LOL! I just spritzed
some water and sealed with oil and I'm on my way :-)
My hair looks wet, but it is actually dry on this pic. When I arrived at work, an older
guy looked at my hair and said, "You done got yourself a Jheri Curl huh gal?"
LOL! It took me about 10 minutes to convince him that there were no
chemicals in my hair. I had to pull up a childhood photo as evidence (I
would usually just roll my eyes at silly comments, but spent that much
time on the man ONLY because I didn't feel like doing any work
at the moment, LOL!)
First day exposed to the public, more specifically, at work. This is the end of the day time to go home. Time to spritz with water!
I'm really LOVING my hair!

get it girl jus went through your whole thread and interesting on how you decided to bc. I love it. Hair is cute rock it. I was told that the rule of thumb is when your hair is hard and crunchy that your hair is not feeling the product or the products that you mixed together. unless you want that hold. From one newly natural to another

@priceless Thanks for the compliment and advice! I have started keeping a written journal of the products that I'm using on my hair. I'm confident that I'll have a winning formula as soon as I learn my "hair language"! Your hair is awesome!!! How long have you been natural?
