I really love your flattwist style! How long did it take you to do this? I definitely want to try flattwisting my entire head since I normally would only do the sides or just the front.

Thanks kc! It took much less time than it usually takes me to style my hair...about an hour or so I think. It was a little awkward twisting at an angle, but I just kept trying. Let me know if you try it.

Happy New Year, and thanks for the compliments. I don't think I'm quite past twa stage yet, maybe in another inch or so.

Hey Toya...
Just so you know that is my next style...I'm sitting here with Darcy's Heavy Cream on right now for an over night pre-dc!! I plan to modify my style a bit, but I want you do know that you did an EXCELLENT job!!!!!!!
I tried to do a tutorial of the flat twists going up like you asked, but it didn't turn out well. You couldn't see what I was doing because my fingers kept getting in the way!! Sorry....
Hope you enjoyed and are still enjoying your New Year!!!

Thanks KNH!! Aww, sorry that the video didn't turn out right, but thanks so much for giving it a try.

Happy New Year ladies! Hope 2011 is going well for y'all so far.

So after seeing this post http://tiashauntee.blogspot.com/2010/12/yarn-braids-yes.html on Tiashauntee's blog I knew I just had to give these a try. I've been wanting to try them for a while, but I could never get the hang of braiding with extra hair (or yarn) added. I looked at some of the tutorials that she linked to her blog, gave myself a "you can do this" talk, then went to Wal-Mart and bought some of the Red Heart yarn.
My daughter wanted colored yarn, but I was not having that. I wanted to stick with black so we were able to compromise on the "Black Fleck" color. It has little flecks of color throughout it, but not so much that it looks distracting. After seeing how hers came out I would love this color for myself! It looks fun and interesting...to me.
We were in no rush to finish them since she didn't have to go to school for a few more days so I started them Wednesday around 3p.m. and finished Friday night at around 10p.m. We took huge breaks in between but if I had to guess, I'd say that it took about 7 hours total. Considering this was my first time I don't think that's too bad.
This was her first style...I couldn't really think of anything else, but I'm sure that YT has some cool styling videos.

Those look really good! I have also been wanting to try yarn braids, but I can't get the hang of adding hair either (on myself anyway...I am almost certain I could do it on another person).
Good Job.
