Full Weave Empty Full Weave

Post by Pinkrage 4th January 2010, 5:37 pm

Recently, I have been considering getting a full sew in weave. I plan to wear it for a couple of months. I have only had a weave two other times. The first time I kept it for 1 day (it was HORRIBLE), the second weave I had on my cruise. I kept it for 1 week.

This time if I get one, I am going to spend A LOT of money on hair so I want to keep it longer. Does anyone else wear weaves as a protective style. I really want a "set it and forget it" hair approach, LOL!

I think this will allow my hair to grow without too much manipulation. What are your thoughts?

Sure, just do not forget about the hair underneath. It will still need moisture, sealers and conditioning.

that is what i did the first time i went "natural",back to back for two years. it didn't damage my hair. i made sure to deep condition and trim between installs. you may want to lube your hair up with coconut oil, or shea butter before getting it braided up!! i am now transitioning, i am a year and seven months in, and i no longer use full sew-ins, but now i leave out my edges and a horse shoe in the top with the kinkiest curly weave i could find. i have found this to work better for keeping my hair moisturized. i wash it as i would my natural hair and the braided hair is able to absorb moisture from the conditioner, then i use the concentrator tool on the blow-dryer to dry my roots to prevent wet weave funk. the left out hair is treated the same i would a twist out and blended with the weave. i have found that this method makes the take down easier because my hair isn't dried out after being left braided for months, and by using curly hair i stay in the habit of caring for curls. i just think a straight weave for a natural is a BAD idea, so i stick to curly. it seems the easy care of straight can lead to resentment of the kinks underneath when its time to take out the weave(thats what happen to me the first time around, and lead me into the arms of a "texture softener"). its like an addict hanging out with old friends, DANGEROUS!!! if you wanted to have a full weave to not deal with your own for awhile, very beautiful styles can be achieved with curly hair!!! but at the end of the day the decision is, of course yours!!! good luck, and have fun!!! here is a pic of me with a blow out after taking down a full weave, and a pic of me with my curly weave

I totally agree with everything LexiBugg just shared. I've been transitiong since Sept. 2008 and that's all I wore were weave. I began with partial weaves because my horeshoe was relaxed but once I decided to go completely natural I graduated to full weaves. My last install was labor day weekend of '09 and I wore a curly weave (thanx halleyscurls.com) and loved it. Like LexiBugg said, it gets you in the habit of caring for curly/textured hair. I hate straight hair [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] and will never rock a straight weave again.

I've learned that the quality of the hair can make a huge difference and opted for a more expensive brand during my last install. I rather pay $300 for hair that I can wash and reuse later, than some cheap BSS hair like Milky Way. What a disaster! My hair is my life-long investment.

Thanks for the tips lady. I didn't plan on getting straight hair. It will definitely be curly hair. My hair if fully natural so I definitely need something that will blend well.

Ok, can you all school me. I thought a partial was only a few tracks (i.e. tracks only in the back). I thought all full weaves left some hair out so that you can wear in a pony, etc?

BTW- Lexi I love the pics.

thank you, glad you like!!! okay, a partial ranges from a few track in the back to what i mentioned, perimeters out with a horse shoe in the front(size varying). a full weave is absolutely none of your hair left out, with either a closure made form the weave you purchased or an actual separate closure piece!! if you need any resources on great quality curly weaves or blending techniques, i am more than willing to help!!! and i don't know why i assumed you were getting straight hair!!! i guess i have seen a few natural make this mistake, including myself, and i didn't want another lady to fall into the straight weave trap!! asecret between you and me,eheheheheehe(yeah like no one else is reading this) a curly weave was partially instrumental in my decision to go completely natural. i just love curls/kinks/coils so much more than straight hair!!!

I am currently wearing a full-head sew-in. I am so lazy when it is cold plus I just cut all the perm. color out of my hair (and like a watched pot ...) also during the warm months my family lives at the beach and weaves and sea water don't mix. I wear both straight and curly weaves for me it just depends on the style I want. I am currently sporting a curly weave.pic below) I wash and condition my hair on a regualar basis. I also spray it with my mixture of He HH, water, olive oil, and wild growth oil nightly.

A co-worker of mine is attempting to g onatural and she has a full head sew-in with straight hair (pic below)

I am looking for a great quality curly weave and blending techniques! I've been rocking lace front wigs and more recently self installed braids...i HATE combing my hair in the winter! lol advice please!!

i am glad to help!!! the main three brands of hair i have tried are the "brazilian wave" by bohyme, All about my hair's kinky curly, and halley's curls "creole curly"!!

Brazilian wave has a natural curl pattern, so it may vary batch to batch,my first it is soft to the touch, but coarse in strand size. very long lasting, i have had the same 8oz for about four years now. there is moderate shedding but only during washing. no loosening of the curl pattern, no tangling. i used a flat two strand twist for blending, one in the back, two on the sides, and three to four twist in the horse shoe.this hair is my favorite!!! shipping has always been quick, and i have never had issues wih customer service!!!

All About my hair's kinky curly is scary right out of the pack, but once i started to play with it unrolled the track it was okay. it has a tighter kinkier curl, which i loved. it was soft, but still had coarse strands, but required less blending for my texture. i used this hair for two installed and i am preparing to use it a third. i did notice that the curls have loosened, but not fallen completely. i think that was to be expected since this hair is permed to achieve the curl. it is still very curly and kinky, and beautiful, it just now resembles the Brazilian wave, which is cool because now i an blend the tow for an install. during my second install i noticed the curls beginning to lock, not lock like a big tangle but like those curls that clump and coil around itself, it not a tangle!! but it makes the hair flat and they can be gently separate for volume. i actually have a friend whose natural curl behaves this way!! the shedding has to be prevented by sealing, but i dont like chemicals on my scalp so i re-enforced the tracks sewing extra thread weaving in and out along the length of the track. this eliminated the shedding for me!!i also split the weft!!the horizontal length of the track seemed a bit short!! this hair being listed second dose not mean it is my second choice after the brazilian, its third!!! arrive very fast, also no issues with serves but i only have place the single order!! i believe the business is black owned!!

my second favorite is the creole curly. it is very soft, and fine in strand. the curl is more of a tight z like pattern with spirals on the ends.but it is like a wave not a crimp, no hard edges!! it measures very long, can achieve great volume, quite a few women have found no need to blend, but i still did my twist for blending, they were small, though which means the dry faster!! this hair is beautiful, soft holds its pattern though it is permed,no one who has reviewed the product has complained!!! i didn't have an issue with shipping, but others have claimed to a couple of years back!!!! some people had once taken to callin the company "hoodrat INC" which is sad since it is black owned i believe!!! but as of late it seems the "kinks" have been worked out of their business practices!! oh yeah and the bill through paypal!!! they have a fotki, which includes customer pics and testimonials, and you can evengoogle halley's curls creole curly and get loads of pic of the hair on the track and installed. i seem to have miss placed mine!!!

but here are pics of the other two

update!!! so i stepped over to the halley's curls fotki and guess what???!?!? they are adding a new texture to there product list called natural!!! it is described as "100% Malaysian remy hair gently processed to a NATURAL 4B texture!" great for ladies who want a curl look without the hassle of blending!!! my hair isn't 4b but this has me excited!!!! so many ladies, including myself, have been waiting to find hair that matches our natural unaltered texture!!

the brazilian is perfect for this look, as well as the braiding pattern i use, this is actually style i wear often, similar to the pic of me in the black dress!!! the braiding pattern i use, leaves about an inch to an inch and a half out on the sides and an 3 to 3.5 by 3 to 3.5 horse shoe section in the front(exactly where Bre's bump is in front)!! it is best to start by parting out the horse shoe first, what ever size works for you depending on how much hair you want out!!! then on either side of the horseshoe, start about an inch or so in, and part the perimeter following the natural shape of your hairline.. make sure there is enough hair to cover the tracks, but not enough to interfere with smooth blending!!! now the braids!!! i usually start in the back, part from one side to the other, and braid hair to the end. all subsequent braid i part the same way but slip in the middle horizontally and braid each side to the end, (but loosely when it is not longer to the scalp because you will be tucking and upbraiding and re-braiding)do this repeatedly until all hair is braided. now you cross the loose ends and either tuck them into the base of the opposite braid, or instead of tuck sewing the braids into this position will result in less tension. now you should have two columns of braided ends. now start at the top and tuck the top most braid behind the one directly below it. unbraid both braids and form one braid with this hair, and repeat the process until you reach the last braid. once you have completed both sides, i usually tuck the ends under the base of the last braid and up, under the rest of the braid heading in a diagonal direction until they form an "x"!!!

now i know this sounds like a lot, and is quite confusing(i may have to post a you tube video for you!!!) this process help minimize the loosening of my install. if you don't braid too tightly, there will be no damage to edges, and i had to cook this one up as my hair got longer to keep my braids flat!! i have thought of another way to braid my long hair and keep it flat!! i eliminate the step where i cross/overlap the braid, and instead alternate the braids, instead of paring the hair in the middle i braid on braid longer and the other shorter and have it end, where it would have ended if I'd crossed them. here is an example with lines!!!

____________ ____
___ _____________
____________ ____
___ _____________
____________ ____
___ _____________

hope this helps, the spaces are where the loose ends of the braids are, then unbraid and combine the hair to form one long braid, then tuck into the "X". hope this makes at least a little sense!!

That's so much info Lexibugg. I used the creole wavy from Halleys Curls and loved it. The creole curly does have more of a "Z" formation than the wavy. You must keep curly hair moist like our own natural textures or as me and my girls say, it will begin to look "thirsty." What I liked about this texture was the shrinkage it developed once completey air-dried. If anyone is concerned about shedding which you shouldn't with this brand, seal the wefts. You can purchase a fabric glue such as Fray Check(craft stores) and apply that to the tracks before installation. Give the tracks ample time to dry. Here's a link from Blackhairmedia.com with additional info:

For the Brazilian weave ladies out there: do you twist set when its wet? I just put in brazilian bohyme and I'm afraid it will tangle if I twist set as soon as I wash it.

Thoughts? recommendations?
