I don't know why but I just can't get a twist out to save my life... what am I doing wrong??? Im starting to think my hair may be to short for twist outs right now or the twists are too small... I just dont get it.
HELP ME!!!

Re: Cant get a twist out to save my life!!!
When you enlarge the pics, it don't look that bad. I had this same issue a few weeks and LynnieLuv had to fill me in on some twisting game. With a Twa, twist/twist outs look so much better when you use smaller twist. I mean like mini twist, maybe a total of 30-50 twists. The great thing about being natural, you were able to pull it off with a headband. But I like the definition you have.
Re: Cant get a twist out to save my life!!!
How about trying without the gel? I get great definition and I never use gel. I just condition, oil, seal and air dry. It does take a lot of practice though. Took me quite a few tries to get it the way I wanted.

I think it also looks pretty good like this..
But as NhappyJackie already mentioned, the smaller the better! And also the longer you leave it in, the better it'll look.
I always notice a difference from when I leave my twist in overnight or for a week.

I've never used a gel either to do my twists.
After I've co-washed or
shampooed/dc'd, I just put in a leave-in and put up to air-dry between
50-70%, apply my unrefined shea butter, section into 4 and twist one
section at a time applying a little more shea butter to the ends of each
twist.
My avatar is a twist-out taken a few days ago. I put up the entire
process of what I did for that very twist-out in the "Figuring Out the Twist-out!" Thread

Re: Cant get a twist out to save my life!!!
I have had the same problem hun but the other day i finally feel as though i succeeded. What i did was co washed the night before and put in my shea butter mix. The next day I combed it out and my hair was still a bit wet. I like my hair to appear big and fluffy even though i have a twa so I put in little chunky twists all over my head and left it in for like an hour. lol took them down and it was super cute and soft. I think next time ill leave it in longer. but maybe you could try that. I dont do the smaller ones because then you can see all the parts.

I cowash then but on a mixture of shea butter, aloe vera gel and coconut oil. I let it air dry for a little while then I twist adding a little more of the mixture as I go. You also might want to try putting a few more twists.

I agree with everyone-it just looks like you need to make more and smaller twists. Also, i would try to twist it down to the roots and try to twist them a little tighter if possible. But it doesn't look that bad. It just takes a little more practice and patience. You'll get the hang of it!

It doesn't look bad; maybe its just not what you were expecting. Was it dry by the time you untwisted?
Maybe you should try some type of pudding/cream along w/ the shea butter to twist. Also, smaller twists might look better too.

Like NHJackie said, when you have a TWA, you have to do your twist smaller. You also have to be gentle when you are untwisting so you dont cause unnecessary frizz. I use a pick to lift lightly at the roots to cover the parts.

Re: Cant get a twist out to save my life!!!
It doesn't look bad at all actually. Like BajanPrincess said, you probably just need smaller twists. I just twisted my TWA last night. I was sure to make small twists since I don't have that much hair yet...lol. Also, I didnt' use gel and instead used Oyin burnt sugar and shine and define. I wanted to be sure my hair was fluffy and soft when I let the twists out (which I plan to do tomrorow). I would recommend next time to make them smaller and maybe just use the shea by itself. Good luck! You know what they say, practice makes perfect.

First, I am happy I'm not alone in having problems with twists and twist outs. I've been waiting for my hair to grow out so I could do one and I tried last night. I refuse to take a picture of my head to post here, but it was bad. Think wet poodle.

Process: Damp hair, not totally dry. Setting lotion/water/oil spritz, then Oyin Burnt Sugar Pomade and a thousand tiny twists all over that I stopped counting after about 25. My hair is STRAIGHT today after taking down those snakey twists. I thought that's what was happening as I was twisting a million twists for 2 hours...my hair wouldn't curl back up or around my finger. Each twist just hung straight down. I thought surely by the time it dried this morning I'd have some curls and definition.
My hair looks like it's been set on small rollers...smooth from the roots down, soft and shiny, but NO little ringlets, no little curls and my TWA is gone. I assume when I wash it tomorrow morning it will revert to my curly texture.
Anyway, I had to try the twists or I'd still be wishing I had. Now I know that it won't work for my hair texture. Doesn't take much for my hair to revert to straight, i.e. limp and straggly. And no amount of teasing gave it any oomph. Trial and error.
