Salvaging lifeless twists
I twisted my hair using shea and a little gel and from the roots till about three inches down it was lovely and boingy then the relaxed ends just hung limply.
So I put my thinking cap on at 7am and thought about ways to save this sinking ship and be out of the house on time.

So I decided to put it in a ponytail. I then unravelled the ends and put it in a doughnut. I added a headband to keep the edges smooth and put a clip to increase the pretty.

So my question to you ladies is how do you salvage twists gone wrong or stale?

sometimes I'll take two twists and twist them together until all the twists are gathered into a ponytail or some kind of updo. Bobby pins are my best friend along with a few decorative combs, clips, pins and headbands.

That happened to me when I was transitioning, but fortunately I didn't have anywhere to go. So, the next time I did it, I just used flexirods on the ends to give a nice curl and was fine. But, you did an outstanding job and saved the day! Nice quick thinking I like that look!

Your bun looks great. Sometime when my ends are looking weird I set them on perms rods. Perm rods are amazing... small= tight, big=loose curl curls/spiral[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I would suggest perm rods also. I don't wear twists, but that's what I would do if I had an issue w/ my ends.Neems wrote:Your bun looks great. @ naturallychelsea... OMG.. when I saw ur pic.. I was like.. whoa who took a pic of my hair and used it as thier pic..LOL.. I have the same problem (it's growing out though!) and did the same thing this past weekend only to take it out LOL... But next time I'm going to do like some of the other ladies have suggested and use some rods or rollers to curl the straight ends..LOL.. That's what I planned on doing this weekend..but I didn't..LOL! Good luck next time! n post pics so I can see and copy! LOL!
**I so don't know what to do w/ these straight ends.. and am excited that they are going away! cutting them in DEC!

Thnx for the advice ladies but no matter what I tried my relaxed ends refused to cooperate. The curls from the rods look beautiful but after an hour or so they just hang loosely and a whole day of drying and all of my hard earned work goes down the drain. The problem with me is that my hairdresser used to get my hair fried and slicked to the sides.
But I don't fret, it only means I have to get more creative

You're welcome. Keep experimenting that's the beauty of transitioning and going natural. It gives you an excuse to play in your hair.

Your twists in the bun look cute! To maintain your curl on your relaxed ends you may want to try a strong hold like gel or setting lotion since straighter hair is more difficult to curl

Re: Salvaging lifeless twists
@ coco euro I'll try that if I ever feel the need to wear my hair down which is seldom because I feel so self conscious about it being thin (which is why I transitioned in the first place, healthy but fine hair)
@ everyone you guys have such gorgeous heads of hair. Can't wait to have hair like yall!!!!!
